About a month ago, we started talking. So much was thriving at Liga Masiva: an Oprah Magazine feature; positive farmer impact; and amazing customer feedback. But we had the sickening sensation that we weren’t doing what we set out to do. We set out to create the beauty, diversity, and power of a farmers’ market, on a global scale. We set out to connect thousands of farmers in Latin America, growing a beautiful range of products, to people in the US. We set out to build a Global Farmers’ Market. And somehow, all we were selling was coffee.
We knew we needed to act, and we didn’t want to wait any longer. So we met for a week in Mexico, working tirelessly to create something remarkable and new while building on what’s already working. We scoured the markets and talked to food experts, met with farmers and read cookbooks. And at the end of the week, we had the initial plans for The Liga Box.
Risky as it may be, this has always been our vision, and we’re thrilled to be bringing it to life. We’ll be trying to capture all the developments and setbacks, ideas and frustrations on our blog-- follow along by clicking here!
We’re making (by hand!) 500 limited-edition Liga Boxes for sale starting early December. This is Box #1 of what will become, we hope, a monthly experience with a different theme every month. The theme this month? Dulce, Sweets from Mexico. We’re still polishing up the final details, but it’ll include a few hand-selected products ranging from hand-ground chocolate to dried cactus fruit, direct from our new farmer friends in Mexico, and a beautiful magazine of photography, recipes, and a few stories from the farms.
This is a prototype. A test. A longshot, perhaps. We want to hear your feedback, make sure it’s a good idea, and build it into a rich monthly experience. We’ll even try to deliver these by hand if you’re in New York, as we’d love to hear your thoughts. We hope you’ll join us on this adventure and help us build the Global Farmers’ Market.
